Suede is the underside of leather, sanded to give it a soft and smooth feel. It comes from farms in the Rio Grande do Sul region and is tanned in Brazil without harmful or prohibited chemicals.
VEJA uses dyes that meet regulations and prioritizes responsible water use during the tanning process. This suede is then coated with PFC-free water-repellent oils to shield the sneakers from light rain.
Care
Using a washing machine is strongly discouraged to prevent altering the properties of the materials.
Waterproof your shoes using a product appropriate for the material. Repeat every 3 to 6 months.
Maintain the nubuck/suede leather of your shoes by brushing and dry cleaning. Finish by applying a suitable hydrating and renovating product.
Let dry in the open air, away from heat sources (such as sunlight or radiators), to prevent discoloration.

VEJA
Since 2005, VEJA has been creating sneakers in a different way, mixing social projects, economic justice, and ecological materials.
VEJA uses Brazilian and Peruvian organic cotton for the canvas and laces, Amazonian rubber for the soles, and various innovative materials made from recycled plastic bottles or recycled polyester.
VEJA sneakers are produced in high-standard factories in Brazil and Portugal.
Since 2004, VEJA been using fair trade practices. This means they deal directly with producers, cutting out middlemen.
They pay upfront for harvests, often up to 50%. This means that they buy the raw materials a year in advance of making sneakers. At the beginning of the year, they establish the price by signing a two-year contract with producer families. This way, producers know their earnings from the harvest before planting. The price ensures that producers can live well and reinvest in their farms.
