Store Manager  - Zinnia Textiles


Store Manager and team leader for Zinnia Textiles. Zinnia features beautiful mindfully made clothing and goods and is located in the heart of downtown Nelson BC, perched above beautiful Kootenay Lake, in a large and stunning new space within one of Nelson’s original heritage buildings.


We’re looking for a thoughtful, organized, experienced and community-minded Shop Manager to join our established team. If you're like us, you’re someone who appreciates nature and its gifts, understands our interconnectedness, cares about impact, loves discounts on beautiful clothes, and most likely has a cat.


This role is ideal for someone who genuinely loves beautifully made clothing and goods, enjoys connecting with people, and feels excited about helping our small business continue to grow and evolve. 


The shop manager/ team leader will work closely with our founder Jen Barnes, who has an amazing 25 year track record in the industry. She is looking for support weaving her creative concepts into well designed flow and to help implement ideas, create supportive structure and systems, and assist in bringing plans into reality.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing daily shop operations

  • Supporting and leading the retail team

  • Organizing staff meetings

  • Creating a warm, welcoming customer experience

  • Assisting customers in finding pieces that suit their style and needs

  • Helping maintain the visual beauty and flow of the store

  • Inventory management and merchandising

  • Opening and closing procedures

  • Assisting with scheduling, communication, and shop organization

  • Helping implement systems, projects, and operational improvements

  • Monitor stock and profitability

  • Working closely with the owner on ideas, planning, and execution

  • Working in coordination with creative and communications leads to support cohesive in-store presentation, campaigns, and brand storytelling

  • Supporting content creation and social media

  • Supporting owner with seasonal purchases and re-orders

  • Values textiles, clothing, design, and beautifully made goods

  • Is warm, personable, and confident interacting with customers

  • Is organized, reliable, and self-motivated

  • Enjoys both creative work and behind-the-scenes structure

  • Can take initiative and follow through on projects

  • Communicates clearly and collaborates well

  • Feels excited by helping our small but flourishing business grow

  • Has strong computer skills and comfort learning retail systems

  • Wants to be part of a supportive and positive workplace culture

  • Has an eye for visual presentation

Experience

Retail and/or management experience is an asset, though we value attitude, care, emotional intelligence, and work ethic just as much. A love for spreadsheets and numbers could be an asset along with experience with merchandising and display.


Availability

Must be available one day per weekend for most weekends and 3-4 plus days per week, depending on seasonal and shop needs.


Compensation

Zinnia is a Living Wage employer.

We offer living wage and above, depending on experience and skills, plus a quarterly performance bonus based on store performance and leadership contributions. We offer an awesome work environment along with benefits, parking and of course, staff discounts.

(BTW we have a slushie machine in the back for hot days)
